Patterns and Prints Galore – Stitch Fix Review

This post is long overdue, but better late than never! At the end of Summer I received another Fix where I explicitly asked for dresses I could wear to work and to try a romper that was short sleeved or sleeveless since my last one was full length sleeves. Here’s how my Fix unfolded…

#1 – Market & Spruce Elody Embroidered Detail Dress

I’ve really gotten to love a floral print over my past X years with Stitch Fix. This dress from Market & Spruce, one of my favorite “companies” from Stitch Fix is no exception. The string detail in the back of the neck is interesting and adds a little something unexpected. I was a little worried at first about the crochet detail that takes up so much of the front neck/chest part of this dress, fearing I wouldn’t be able to wear a normal bra with it, but I found you don’t notice nude bra straps through it since the dress is kind of busy. This dress is super comfy and flattering with the cinched in waist band. One of the best things about this dress, besides it’s flowy-ness, and beautiful pattern is the fact that it travels so well. While I may not be rocking this dress anymore at the moment, it’s perfect for trips to warmer climates, like where I was in the past couple of weeks, New Orleans and Austin. It works in the sweltering southern heat of the US that’s still prevalent every now and then during this time of the year.

#2 – Wisp Ryenne Jersey Dress

This dress is a bit “dressed up” you could say. While the style didn’t immediately talk to me, as it reminded me of something my mother might wear (a more mature cut and print) but after trying it on, it was super comfortable, and the waistband flatters one’s chest. While I do think I look more mature in this dress, I guess that isn’t a bad thing. I am getting older, and I’m not a young twenty something anymore. Nothing wrong with looking a little more mature in the office, even if I work for a Tech giant. This dress also works well for travel. You could bunch this thing up and it’ll never wrinkle.

#3 – Market & Spruce Gala Lattice Detail Dress

Another Fix and another Market & Spruce. This dress is pretty similar to the one I received above, similar fabric and feel to it. The only major differences are that this one doesn’t have crochet details and it runs a bit big. I felt the cinched waist line wasn’t tight enough, or the torso part of the dress was too long, making the cinched waist sometimes fall too low. It’s still super comfy though! The pattern of this dress is also super cute, casual, but the cut and style makes it a perfect dress for work or going out and about on the weekend.

#4 – Kaleigh Annabelle Knit Dress

This knit dress is hands down my favorite in the box! The cut and pattern reminds me a retro style dress. One of the best parts of this dress is how lightweight it is on. It’s beyond comfortable. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the straps were perfectly wide enough and cut just right to allow you to get away with a normal bra and not have to worry about straps hanging out in the back, not that that’s stopped me before… But overall, this dress by Kaleigh is just a polka dot of fun! You could pair this with a white blazer and take the town by storm, or just wear it casually as is with simple sandals.

#5 – Collective Concepts Keva Crochet Trim Romper

Onto the romper, ladies and gents! This past year I got in my head that I wanted to try a romper. I passed on the whole romper boom last summer because I wasn’t sure it was for me, but this year I figured why not give it a try!? The whole purpose for me using Stitch Fix is to open up my style horizons, take a risk, and try something I never would have picked for myself. So, here we go down Romper lane again! This time, I was super excited to find a spaghetti strapped version that would be perfect for warmer weather and climates. While it’s currently Fall, I think you could still make this work due to the very Fall inspired colors this dress is decked out in. Just throw on a jean jacket and you’re rocking it! We all know pockets are a girls best friend, and I’m happy to report this romper has long pockets for all your carrying needs! Just don’t put anything too too heavy in there or it might feel/look a little silly since the fabric is thin and you’ll get weighed down. I’ve enjoyed wearing this romper this past season, and I know when I head back to the Philippines for work in the winter I’ll be packing this baby!

Final Thoughts: This Fix was a pretty big hit! Cassandra, my stylist, really listened to my requests and made it happen! You can’t get enough outfits and pieces that are travel proof. For me, that’s the biggest thing! I seem to travel more and more for work lately, and it’s essential that I have clothing items that can travel with me and take a beating but still look great right out of the suitcase, and that’s what these five items do. Casual fun work wardrobe – Stitch Fix Review

It has been another hot Summer in the city, which means it’s hard to find comfortable, fashionable, and weather appropriate clothing items for the workplace. Most of my commute involves me walking outside in the elements before jumping on a train, so I need items that are light, airy, and still look like I tried to put myself together for the day even though I’m melting. In this Fix, I also asked for a romper, my first ever, so let’s see how this goes.

#1 -Skies Are Blue Alisson Chambray Top
The first item out of the box was a denim looking top. From first glance I wasn’t sure I was into it or how it would look on me. The color itself is a nice light blue, but it didn’t scream Summer to me. The fabric has a bit of weight to it, although it’s not form fitting where it becomes unbearably hot, but I’ve still yet to incorporate this top into my wardrobe yet because it’s been too hot for a top with sleeves (at least outside during my commute). When I did try it on, I started to come around to the style, and find it’ll look great with white capris or jeans. Now, I just need to the temps to drop 20 degrees and I’ll be ready to rock it.

#2 – Skies are Blue Bekah Crochet Overlay Halter Blouse
Seems the Skies are Blue over here in New Jersey, with my second piece being from the same designer. I’ve never been one for halter tops, mainly because I tend to wear normal bras that of course come with straps that will show with any type of non standard neck/shoulder line top. I was a little hesitant, but I figured I could give a top a go that required a strapless bra and hope for the best. Well, I absolutely love this top. Halter tops don’t have to be cheesy or unprofessional. This halter top is absolutely gorgeous, with just enough crochet detail to take your style up several notches and be able to rock this white beauty to the office or on date night. It’s truly a 10/10. I’ll pair this top with the next item, so scroll to see what it actually looks like since the Stitch Fix app screenshot was busted.

#3 – Kut from the Kloth Jansen Printed Linen Short
While I love shorts, I only have one pair in my collection that’s actually linen, and that seems like a crime since linen is the perfect Summer fabric. I was excited to pull these beauties out of the box and admire their fun and vibrant colors and print. I was a little hesitant at first to figure out what color top I own that I could pair with these and still look put together, but my stylist already thought of that, and mentioned these shorts would go perfectly with the white halter blouse or the chambray top from this box. Later on, I did try these on with a plain white tank and felt the look was cute, but made me look too relaxed, as if I was in a pair of pjs. So, I guess the awesome thing is that you can really elevate these shorts with a fancier top like the crochet halter, or wear it down by putting on a plain tank. You can get two looks out of one pair of shorts! I should also mention the length on these shorts is also a little longer than I usually wear, but that makes them great for work.

#4 – Gilli Jeslyn Flare Skirt
I’ve been interested in skirts more and more lately. One, because they are more appropriate for the office than my booty shorts, which don’t get me wrong, I’m still wearing to work (tech companies for the win), but two, they are so effortless and can make even a cotton tank top come together for a professional look. This flare skirt is a winner. The floral pattern is perfect for transitioning from Spring, Summer, and even to Fall. It’s extraordinarily flowy and beyond comfortable. Pair with a pale pink cotton tank, or a white or light green silk top and you’re golden.

#5 – Market & Spruce Fraya Knit Romper
Now for the piece we’ve all been waiting for, the romper. When I requested a romper I had vision of a short sleeve, or spaghetti strap item, but what I pulled out instead was a long sleeve romper. I have to admit I was a little confused why I was receiving a long sleeve romper in the middle of summer. How was I going to wear this in 90+ degree heat? If you get this romper, the first thing you’ll notice is the weight to it. It’s pretty heavy, although the fabric itself isn’t too bad when you wear it. The colors are to die for. When I see the bright white and blues on this piece, all I can think of is resort wear and Greece. Now I’ve never been to Greece, but I think this would be a nice outfit to wear there. Thankfully, the temps dropped a bit one day so I was able to give it a go and found it was a really fun piece to wear and pretty manageable to deal with when it came to visiting the restroom. There’s one button in the back by the neck that’s pretty easy to maneuver and makes getting in and out not too painful. Finally, the best part of this romper are the pockets! You can’t go wrong with anything with pockets!

Final Thoughts: For a Summer Fix, this box hit most of my checklist. I wish two of the five items weren’t longer sleeved so that I could actually enjoy them now, rather than in the Fall, but I’m really happy with the pieces my stylist Cassandra sent to me. I was able to give some new looks a try with both a romper and a halter, and I started to realize I shouldn’t limit my style based on old assumptions I had. As they say, you never truly know how something will look until you try it. Go out there and try a new fashion trend, it might just become one of your favorites!

Is it Spring yet!? Stitch Fix Spring Review

Winter has not gone away yet on the East Coast, even though Spring is officially here! Although it snowed this week, and there’s still more snow in the forecast, I couldn’t help myself and had to order a Spring fix, in hopes that it would make it really feel like the season was finally here. My goal for this Fix was to get some “Spring essentials,” whatever my stylist might think those are.

I didn’t have my regular stylist for this month, but a stylist named Cassandra who I’ve received another recent Fix from, but you’ll have to wait a bit to hear about that Fix. Spoiler, if you’re a pockets in dresses type of girl, you’ll want to keep an eye on this space! Now to this Fix…

#1 – Market & Spruce Liano Mixed Material Top
I’m a fan of tank tops, and of Market & Spruce, so I had a feeling this would be a winning combo for me. What I love most about the “tank tops” Stitch Fix has provided me over the years is that they elevate my style and find pieces that say me, but are more fashion forward or dressed up, which is great! I absolutely love this color combo! The front of this tank is super silky and divine, while the back is solid dark blue with a nice lace detail down the center. I love how this top can be dressed up or down and how the floral print, without being obnoxious, says Spring!

#2 – Level 99 Primrose Skinny Jean
You may have noticed in the above picture that I’m rocking some pretty cute jeans. Well, those babies are from Level 99. In a past post I discussed my love for purple pants and how I was excited to finally have a pair, but these beauties are absolutely perfect, and now my new favorite. It’s also amazing how well they pair with the top in my Fix. Purple is a must for Spring! These pants are perfect for my long legs, and are super smooth and sleek. The price is a bit steep, but it’s not the first time I’ve paid this much for a pair of Stitch Fix pants, however not a price I’d personally pay if I was out shopping in a store in person. Ah, the price for convenience!

#3 – Market & Spruce Jann Sueded Patch Open Cardigan
I love a cardigan. Not only are cardigans great to have year round, but they are a great staple for the office and cool Spring and Summer nights. I’ve got a few in my closet, but none quite like this Market & Spruce piece. What I love most about this cardigan is the interesting detail of suede right around the wrist and lower arm. It’s funky, unique, and fun. I’ve also found the suede “cuffs” to be useful – keeping my arms from sliding while typing at my desk, which may otherwise happen from how soft this cardigan is. The deep pockets are a nice added touch, and great for carrying around a phone, clipping on a work badge, or just keeping your hands warm. This is a keeper.

#4 – Daniel Rainn Dunleith Crochet Trim Knit Top
Now when I think Spring, I don’t think about the color black, but lo and behold I received a black top in my Fix. At first I was a bit surprised but after trying on the top, I can see why it was included. The top part of the top is crocheted and it really gives the top a light and feminine touch. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this top much because it didn’t scream “Spring,” but it’s super cute on, plus it gives me an excuse to pair it with a fun colored pant! Do note that since the top part isn’t solid fabric, your bra strap will show. I’d recommend a black bra or a nude color bra.

#5 – Skies are Blue Langlock Cold Shoulder Top
In the past I definitely wouldn’t have considered myself a cold shouldered kind of gal, but Stitch Fix is turning me into one! These stylists have a way with changing my mind about articles of clothing! The first thing that caught my eye about this top was the beautiful brightness of the top. The stark white with a colorful floral pattern makes for a perfect Spring (and Summer) piece. I was a bit nervous when I saw the cut of the top and the whole straps situation, but I figured I’d give it a shot and see how it looked on. Well, I’m sold! I love the delicate crochet detail at the bottom and how flowy and springy it looks on. Super comfy and super cute! Stitch Fix, you’ve made me become a believer in the “cold shoulder.”

Don’t leave yet! Have you heard of “Extras” by Stitch Fix? They now offer intimates like camies, bras, shapewear, socks and tights! I decided to give it a try and picked a nude bra as my “extra” of choice. The best part about “extras” is that you can add as many as you want to your fix, or none at all. You can also use your styling fee towards any extras you may purchase, so that’s a win win!

The bra I received was the Wacoal La Femme Bra in “tan.” I’m always on the hunt for a good fitting bra, and nude is definitely a staple that every woman should have. Things seem to fit ok, and it’s already replaced my go to nude bra. I might have to check out some of the other extras available next time!

Final Thoughts – This was a 5/5 Fix for me. Sure it wasn’t the most “springy” or colorful of Fixes I’ve received, but the pieces were all solid, and definitely matched my style. I love how most, if not all my pieces can mix and match with other items from this Fix, making styling a breeze! I’m already planning out my Summer Fix request, and I think I’m going to be brave and ask for something I’ve never tried before – stay tuned!

The Winter Blues with Stitch Fix for Men

It’s time for another men’s Stitch Fix review! This week we’re looking at winter picks for the guy in your life, or yourself, depending on who is reading this.

Brian was hoping for a box that would add to his cold weather clothing options. Let’s see what Stitch Fix sent.

#1 – Grayers Athletic Tonal Garment Dye Thermal
While Brian was looking for winter clothing pieces, I’m not sure he had a thermal shirt in mind, even though it would be a good item for some of those more brutal wintry days. I really like the blue color of the shirt, and it compliments blue eyes very nicely. If you’re looking for a nice layering piece, I’d suggest adding this to your closet.

Brian’s Thoughts: Thanks, but no thanks. I can appreciate that this thermal top would help keep me warm during the winter, but I’d much rather wear a shirt with a collar than be comfortably warm.

#2 – Grayers Drake Micro Stripe Lux Polo
Next up was a dark colored polo with a subtle print, that his stylist hoped would elevate a casual look. Now Brian likes a nice occasional polo, but typically only short sleeved polos. I may have seen him in one or two long sleeve polos in our 12+ years together. I knew immediately this polo wasn’t going to be a huge hit, one because the color was dark and dreary, and two the style.

Brian’s Thoughts: Eww, a long sleeve polo. In the summer I’m a big fan of polos, the short-sleeve variety is comfortable to wear and doesn’t look too casual. Their long-sleeve brethren, on the other hand, look like someone glued a collar onto a thermal top.

#3 – Descendant of Thieves Tinto Plaid Poplin Shirt
I’ve always been a fan of plaid shirts on men, when the patterns and colors aren’t too busy. This shirt ticks my boxes as a nice long sleeve plaid shirt that you can dress up or down pretty easily. Pair this shirt with some jeans for a casual look, or layer with a nice sweater or sports coat to take it up a notch.

Brian’s Thoughts: Finally, something in this box I can get behind! I very much like this shirt, it’s on the fitted side but still feels comfortable to wear. The non-standard blue tones are a nice addition to my wardrobe.

#4 – Knowledge Cotton Apparel Ludvig One Pocket Twill Shirt
More men should wear button up shirts. I always thinks it makes them look so much more put together than a casual shirt. This Knowledge Cotton Apparel shirt is a nice medium greyish blue color that is a bit textured. Most of Brian’s shirts are all the same plain old smooth cotton texture, which is totally fine, but it can be fun to spice up a wardrobe with a nice textured piece every now and then, and this shirt does it nicely.

Brian’s Thoughts: I liked the style and pattern of this short, but a medium was too short in the sleeves for me. I sent it back and got a large. The collar is on the thinner side, but the fabric is nice and warm for winter days.

#5 – Mavi Zach Straight Leg Jean
The last item included in this Fix was a nice dark washed blue jean. It can be so hard to find jeans for tall skinny guys, but Stitch Fix has done it again with this great pair from Mavi. The fit and color are perfection. I absolutely love these pants on Brian, and highly recommend them for those looking to add a more stylish pair of jeans to their wardrobe. They are definitely worth the price!

Brian’s Thoughts: My previous go-to pair of blue jeans were showing their age so these arrived at the right time. They fit comfortable, have adequate pocket space, and don’t have any of those holes or pre-stained spots that ravage modern jean suppliers. I pair these often with the Descendents of Thieves top.

Final Impressions: This Fix was full of dark colors, hence the title of the blog, but there were a few great pieces in there that have really added some great fit and style to Brian’s day to day wardrobe. Considering the items that Brian kept, I’d say he made out pretty well. He’s already got another Fix scheduled in hopes of getting some more great fitting pants.

Brian’s overall impressions: Statistically, 3/5 feels like a disappointing fix. The first two items were pretty strong misses in my book, but the jeans and blue shirt made up for it. I’ve been wearing these for a few weeks now and they seem to be solid additions to my wardrobe.

A Stitch Fix box fit for a Princess

I’m obsessed with the British Royal family. Kate Middleton is someone I admire, and I love her style. So, I decided to ask my stylist for a Kate Middleton inspired Fix! I’m so excited about this Fix and it’s perfect for the winter season!

#1 – 41Hawthorn Gilda Polka Dot Pullover
The first item is a super cute polka dot sweater. I’m a fan of comfy, slightly baggy, sweaters for some of those chillier days or casual weekends. This pullover fits the bill. I love how the polka dots give it a feminine touch. Pair this sweater with black jeans and flats and you’ll be ready for those cold winter days in style!

#2 – Liverpool Kennedy Skinny Pants
When I pulled these bad boys out it was love at first sight. I’ve been dying to receive a pair of purple pants ever since I saw an outfit on Pinterest, and these pants do not disappoint! They are fabulous. You can dress them up or down effortlessly. Not only are they an amazing color, but they fit and feel like butter. One thing to note, the pockets on these pants aren’t real, which is the only let down. Kate Middleton would definitely rock a pair of these pants. Kudos to my stylist, Jan! Jan recommends pairing these pants with the above polka dot pullover, and I couldn’t agree more. It might just become my go to outfit for the season. #3 – Kut from the Kloth Sinclaire Button Front Blouse
I’ve been big into floral lately, and it seems to be on trend too. The colors on this Kut from the Kloth blouse are beautiful. You’ll notice the top is very transparent, even though it has a busy floral print. If you’re not feeling the see through look, and want to hide your bra or stomach, throw on a camisole, otherwise rock it! I probably wouldn’t have purchased this top for myself from a traditional store, thinking the transparency of the top would be inappropriate or too fashion forward for me, but I kind of dig it. I definitely feel my fashion barriers being shifting a bit, and for the good! Just cut the tag off, something I should have done first 🙂

#4 -Honey Punch Henrie Striped Open Cardigan
This is my first Honey Punch item I’ve received, and I have to say, I like it! Besides my love for Kate Middleton’s fashion sense, I also love nautical/preppy fashion, could be because of my New England upbringing and spending the summers on Cape Cod. This cardigan screams nautical with it’s crisp and clean white and navy stripes. You can’t beat the simplicity of a great cardigan. On top of everything, this cardigan is oh so cozy.

#5 – Leota Aniyah Faux Wrap Knit Dress
I had to save the best for last. There’s nothing more flattering for women than the classic wrap dress. I’m a firm believer every woman should have at least one in her closet. Wrap dresses are effortless and never go out of style, and in my opinion flatter all body types. When my eyes laid upon this beauty I knew it was going to be a keeper right away. Not only is emerald green a beautiful color, but it’s absolutely perfect for the upcoming holiday season, and the perfect red head color! I should note, there’s a very high (sexy) slit on this dress on the side, but it seems to be staying in place fine. I could see Kate Middleton wearing this same dress, so of course I love it. She, like I, can’t stay away from wrap dresses, and you shouldn’t either!

Final Thoughts – Hands down, this is my favorite complete Fix. I absolutely loved every item, and truly felt like Jan was channeling Kate Middleton’s style with each and every piece. Another great thing about this particular fix is how many of the items I could pair with each other, making styling an outfit so easy! I can only hope I get so lucky with my next Fix.
